Institute Director attends 100 Years of German Sports Medicine in Berlin

ECU’s Health and Wellness Institute Director Professor Daniel Galvão was recently in Germany after being invited as an international guest speaker at the Centenary Congress “100 Years of German Sports Medicine Conference held in Berlin.
The German Association for Sports Medicine and Prevention (DGSP) is the oldest sports medicine society in the world and belongs to the biggest medical societies in Germany. The International Federation of Sport Medicine / Fédération Internationale de Médicine du Sport (FIMS) and the European Federation of Sports Medicine Associations (EFSMA) were also represented in the congress to celebrate 100 years of Sports Medicine in Germany.
Professor Galvão also visited ECU’s partner University in Germany, the German Sports University in Cologne and presented data from clinical trials undertaken by the ECU Health and Wellness Institute to the Exercise Oncology Center lead by Dr Freerk Baumann. The German Sport University Cologne (Deutsche Sporthochschule Köln) is Germany’s largest and most prestigious centre of teaching and research in physical education and sport science. Originally founded in Berlin in 1920 as a national College of Physical Education, it was re-located to Cologne in 1947 as a municipal institution and taken over in 1962 by the Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
